Richmond, Virginia is easily the most beautiful city I have ever lived in. The way it is nestled alongside the James River exactly where the tidal waters meet the fall line sets up a picturesque view of the city from every angle. I would be remiss to not share those amazing views with all of you. Ultimately, they are what inspired me to purchase a home here in the River City. Here is a list of my favorite spots, in no particular order.
Libby Hill-Church Hill
Sitting up high above the James River you will come across Libby Hill Park. The view you are currently looking at is the view that named the City. William Byrd II saw this view when he first came across Richmond, and it resembled the view that Richmond on the Thames has in London (google it, it is eerily similar!).
T. Tyler Potterfield Memorial Bridge-Downtown
Commonly known as the T Pott Bridge downtown, this bridge connects Brown's Island to Manchester south of the James River. The views looking in all four directions are scenic, as north looks to downtown, south looks to Manchester, east looks to the where the fall line ends and the tidal James River begins, and west veers into the windy path upriver.
Jefferson Park-Church Hill
Boasting beautiful views of Downtown Richmond, Jefferson Park overlooks Shockoe Bottom from Church Hill. Grab yourself a park bench and watch the city go to sleep.
City Overlook-Church Hill
Another Church Hill view that overlooks the city and Shockoe Bottom. Right behind the old Virginia Radio Tower in Church Hill and perched amidst historic Church Hill.
Flood Wall-Manchester
Overlooking the rapids of the James River on the fall line, with the city skyline in the background, the view here is impeccable and provides a little bit of adventure in an urban setting.
Hollywood Cemetery-Oregon Hill
Hollywood Cemetery is the final resting place to many famous Virginians, and has beautiful views of the James River and Brown's Island. Located just west of Oregon Hill, the scenery here is amazing, and definitely worth a trip.
Capital Bike Trail-Rocketts Landing
Heading down the Capital Bike Trail? Make sure to turn around as your leaving Richmond for an awesome view of the skyline behind the James River.
Belle Isle Pedestrian Bridge-Belle Isle
Our last view of Richmond will take us to the Western Part of downtown on the suspending bridge that connects Belle Isle to Downtown. Belle Isle is located in the middle of the James River, and has walking trails that lead to rock outcrops in the middle of the river, popular for hanging out and sunbathing in the summer time.
